PhilMech showcases value-added products | The Manila Times
INITIATIVES to produce value-added farm-based products were highlighted at the 5th Negoshow Trade Expo 2026 held Sept. 22 to 24 at Robinsons Place Naga in Camarines Sur.
The Philippine Center for Postharvest Development and Mechanization (PhilMech) showcased three of its assisted enterprises — BeanyFits Rice Coffee, Gracielos Cashew Products, and Camarines Sur Premium Rice — as examples of how farm commodities can be transformed through value-adding and product development.
Supported by PhilMech’s Enterprise Development Division, the products represent efforts to increase farmer incomes by converting rice, cashew and other local crops into processed goods with wider consumer appeal.
Through the exhibit, the partner enterprises gained direct exposure to consumers and potential market partners, allowing them to test branding, packaging and pricing in a commercial venue. The trade fair served as a platform for micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to connect with buyers and distributors.
PhilMech also displayed its postharvest technologies, including the Non-Destructive Coffee Moisture Meter and Grain Probe Moisture Meter for coffee, palay, and corn. The technologies are aimed at improving quality assessment and postharvest handling, which are critical to maintaining product standards for market linkage.
The agency said its support covers different points of the agricultural value chain — from reducing postharvest losses and ensuring grain and coffee quality to product development and market promotion.
According to PhilMech, the expo was organized by Radyo Natin 89.5 FM Naga and the city government of Naga to bring together local businesses, entrepreneurs, farmers, MSMEs, and other stakeholders.
For agribusiness enterprises, the event underscored how mechanization, quality control and enterprise development can help small agricultural producers transition from subsistence production to competitive agribusiness ventures.
